Core Technology
The Rational Data industry model is based on core technology, or source technology.
What is source technology? Source technology is an innovation that is at the core of other technological developments. It exists as the parent in parent/child relationships. Source technology often gives birth to new industries and business models.
Historic examples of source technology include the internal combustion engine and the electric distribution system. The internal combustion engine gave birth to the automotive industry and other industries such as the airline industry. Without the invention of the internal combustion engine, neither of these industries would have likely emerged.
From source technologies, industries are developed. Within various industry models, businesses are developed. For example, within the automotive industry there are tire stores, machine shops, auto-dealers, gas stations, and many other supporting businesses. Each of these is based entirely on, and in some way provide an integral piece to, the overall industry model.
At Rational Data we developed an 'intentional' industry model designed to be compatible with the higher goals of preserving the planet, ensuring existential rights, while at the same time meeting a global need or providing a solution to a challenge.
